Number of assignments for interpreting services increased significantly in 2023

29.08.2024 - Public sector

Oslo Economics’ estimates that the number of assignments for interpreting services carried out in spoken languages increased with approximately 40 percent from 2022 to 2023. The equivalent increase in assignments for deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind was around 4 percent.

Moreover, a number of the spoken languages might have a shortfall in the coverage of qualified interpreters.

These findings are presented in our resent report Tolkemonitor SPRÅK 2023.  The report is a part of a series of reports published every 6 months on behalf of IMDi.

The reports are published as a result of the new law “Tolkeloven”, which regulates public use of qualified interpreters. The purpose of the reports is to provide an overlook of the languages in the public sector in need of interpreters, languages with limited access to qualified interpreters and how the interpretation is carried out.
