Society is undergoing rapid digitalisation, and there is a need to test new digital solutions within general practice services. The Norwegian Directorate of Health and Norsk Helsenett, in collaboration with general practitioners, have developed a digital triage solution on Helsenorge.no. Oslo Economics has conducted a follow-up evaluation of the solution. The solution requires patients booking appointments online to complete a form describing their health concerns and symptoms prior to the consultation.
The solution has been tested at five GP clinics in 2023 and 2024. The solution mainly functions as a mapping tool and does not prioritize patients according to urgency and type of consultation. Experiences from the pilot have been mixed; however, in cases where implementation was successful, general practitioners considered it a useful tool. The pilot also revealed that a lack of technical integration with electronic health record systems may disrupt workflow and cause frustration among patients.
There is significant potential for improved digital tools in general practice, and the pilot has provided valuable insights for further digitalisation. The solution, now called «Kartleggingsskjema for fastleger», has been made available to all GP offices via Helsenorge.
