Together with Atkins Norway, Oslo Economics is undertaking a quality assurance project of two conceptual studies in the field of nuclear waste. One investigates which decommissioning level is most beneficial, should IFE cease to operate the reactors. The other study concerns what should be done about the nuclear waste that has accumulated during nearly 60 years of operation. The project is commissioned by the Norwegian Ministry of Industries and Fisheries, and is part of the Ministry of Finance’s Quality Assurance program of public investment valued above 750 million NOK. As of yet, no decision has been made about when the research reactors run by the Institute for Energy Studies will have to shut down.
