On behalf of Opplysningsrådet for Veitrafikken, Oslo Economics has estimated the benefits of faster, shorter and better road between the eastern and western part of Norway.
If you create a route that can be covered in highway speeds and that only 30 percent longer than the airway distance, we the economic benefits over 40 years are estimated to have a net present value of 64,6 billion. Less comprehensive measures on current routes could also provide significant benefits. The benefits of shortening of the route Rv. 52 Hemsedalfjellet by 40 km in combination with slightly higher road standards are estimated to 31 billion.
All calculations are based on expected growth in today’s traffic numbers. Costs related to time, distance and discount rates are in line with the Ministry of Finance’s guidelines for economic analysis.
