Andreas Kostøl has extensive experience with policy and in academia. He started his career in the research departments of Statistics Norway (SSB) and Norges Bank before moving to the United States to become an associate professor of economics at the WP Carey School of Business. He also served as a faculty research fellow at the world-renowned research institution, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) in Cambridge, as well as at the Institute for the Study of Labor in Germany. Today, Andreas is an Associate editor for the leading journal Journal of the European Economic Association and Associate Professor of economics at BI Norwegian Business School. His areas of expertise are labor market and public economics, and he has published several articles in top economic journals, such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the American Economic Review. His research has had practical impact, serving as a basis for discussions in the U.S. Senate and the Ways and Means Committee during the reform of the U.S. social security system. In Norway, his work has been used by the expert group for the new bankruptcy law. His published work is also used in doctoral economics courses across Europe and the U.S.
