{"id":22180,"date":"2026-02-05T14:07:22","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T13:07:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/osloeconomics.no\/?p=22180"},"modified":"2026-02-05T14:08:50","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T13:08:50","slug":"new-research-on-regulation-of-digital-markets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/osloeconomics.no\/en\/new-research-on-regulation-of-digital-markets\/","title":{"rendered":"New research on regulation of digital markets"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Our colleague Arne&nbsp;Rogde&nbsp;Gramstad, together with Bj\u00f8rn Hansen (USN) and \u00d8ystein&nbsp;Foros&nbsp;(NHH), has recently published the article&nbsp;<em>\u201cStricter margin squeeze regulation to&nbsp;achieve nondiscrimination in digital markets\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;in the journal&nbsp;<em>Information Economics and Policy<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Margin squeeze regulation is used, among other things, in telecommunications markets to lower entry barriers and thereby strengthen competition in&nbsp;enduser&nbsp;markets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The article examines whether margin squeeze regulation can also be applied to digital markets. It finds that if such regulation becomes too strict&nbsp;(requiring a high margin for access buyers)&nbsp;it may&nbsp;actually weaken&nbsp;competition&nbsp;for end-users.
